"I will represent each and every one of you — from the Mississippi state line all the way to Georgia. I once heard a state legislator say, 'I represent the people that voted for me.' That is not leadership. People across this district want change, and are eager for it. I am committed to being a representative who fights for you whether you voted for me or not." - Clyde Jones

Healthcare

No one should fear financial ruin, or fatal health concerns, because they aren't able to afford health insurance- a problem that effects over 10% of our population in D1.

Right here in our community, there are over 300,000 Alabamians caught in the gap — making too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford coverage.

Without access to preventative care, unpaid medical care increases at our already struggling hospitals, and drives up the rate of service.

Alabama has refused to expand Medicaid, and now the federal government is making it even harder. That has to change.

I believe in the expansion of Medicaid, and ACA Enhanced Premium Tax Credits to ease the burden of health care on every day Americans.

We can't snap our fingers, and have a new healthcare system. I'll commit to fixing what's broken so Americans can be cared for, while working on a new, and better, healthcare plan.

Restoration Of Checks And Balances

Many Americans have lost faith, and confidence, in the checks & balances that make democracy thrive. This administration has systematically removed people from positions of responsibility and placed unqualified individuals in their place.

We need representatives who will make sure your voice is heard every single day, and will represent their constituents beyond party lines.

We must get back to following constitutional law, and putting qualified leaders in the right positions, if we are going to restore transparency, and confidence in our Federal Government.

I'll go to Congress to take back our role - and ensure Americans aren't governed by executive orders.

Immigration Reform

Immigration is a complex issue, that requires we address both undocumented immigration, and the pathway to citizenship.

Families across our district are being torn apart — deported, or held in facilities far from home — by policies pushed by the very same people who depend on immigrant labor to run their businesses, and harvest their crops.

AL CD1 knows this firsthand, as we have depended on immigrant workers for generations for our agriculture, and infrastructure economies.

I will fight for real immigration reform — a clear, straightforward path for undocumented people to get documented — because the people doing the work that holds our communities together deserve better than to live in fear.

Secure borders are important, but lives and families shouldn't be put on the line to hit arrest quotas.

Support For Veterans

Having served through Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and multiple tours in South Korea — and with a son currently serving in the United States Army — I understand firsthand what families go through when a loved one is in uniform. I know what it feels like to wait and worry, something that the people currently making decisions in Washington do not.

When this administration moved to reduce disability benefits for veterans whose medication had improved their condition, it was written out word for word. That was their intention for the men, and women who sacrificed for this country. It took a massive public outcry to reverse that decision — and it reversed within days. That tells us something important: when people speak up, it works.

Our veterans deserve leaders who feel the weight of every decision made on their behalf; Leaders who have skin in the game. Leaders who will fight for the benefits, care, and respect that every veteran has earned.

Affordability & Opportunities For Young Families

Young people in the First Congressional District can't save for a home because they're paying $2,000 a month just for an apartment. And for families who do own a home, insurance companies are walking away from this area entirely — leaving people to find new coverage overnight at two and 2-3X the cost. When your mortgage jumps $400 a month because of it, the budget gets tighter and tighter.

Families in this district are making impossible choices — whether to keep their health care or keep up with their mortgage. Whether to buy groceries or pay their bills.

At Macedonia Church in Daphne, we see the food line get longer every month. That's happening right here in our community, in a place we wouldn't associate with food insecurity. The cost of living the every day Americans has gotten out of control.

We need representatives who see that first hand, because they're involved in their communities - not watching from second homes.

Workers Rights

Young families are struggling to buy homes in a market they're priced out of, and many people are working multiple jobs just to cover basic living expenses. Much of the affordability problem for Americans stems from not being paid a livable wage.

Alabamians deserve a livable wage. In Baldwin County alone, a single person has to make at least $22 an hour to live here. If that person has a child and needs childcare, the minimum is $27. The federal minimum wage is still $7.25.

In Congress, I'll protect right to Unionize, that Alabama tries hard to fight. If it weren't for unions, we wouldn't have 40-hour work weeks, overtime pay, or paid leave- many of the things we expect as workers today.

Childcare Support

Child care is the backbone of our economy, our communities, and our children's future.

Raising children has changed — and many families no longer have "the village" that it takes to raise children as a single parent, or house where both parents work.

This administration threatened to freeze federal child care funding, sending providers into a panic. Now they want to change the subsidy system to only cover children who are physically present — not those who are enrolled. Children get sick. They miss days. No provider should have to choose between keeping the lights on, and keeping their staff because a toddler caught a cold.

In Alabama, the median wage for a child care provider is $10.83 an hour. That's not enough to live on, and raise a family of your own.

Clyde Jones is running for Congress because the First District deserves a representative who understands that child care is essential — not optional. He'll fight to protect federal funding, preserve subsidies for enrolled children, and ensure the people who shape our youngest minds are paid a wage that reflects their worth.
